GTA 6 wanted system: how police pursuit works in Leonida

GTA VI completely rebuilds the wanted system — witness mechanics, smarter police, geography-based evasion. Here's what to expect.

A Smarter Police Response

GTA V's wanted system was predictable once you learned it. GTA VI introduces more dynamic, realistic police behavior.

New Wanted Levels

Five stars confirmed via trailers, with redesigned escalation:

  • 1-2 stars: Regular patrol response, possible verbal warnings
  • 3 stars: Helicopters, road blocks, rapid response units
  • 4 stars: Tactical units, highway interception
  • 5 stars: Special forces, potential federal agents

Witness System

Unlike GTA V's instant police awareness:

  • Civilians call police with a realistic delay
  • No witnesses = slower response
  • Cameras in Vice City accelerate detection
  • Rural areas (Everglades) = slower police response

Vehicle and Appearance Recognition

  • Police recognize wanted vehicles → change cars to reduce heat
  • Changing appearance (hat, jacket) can reduce wanted level
  • Time matters — waiting in a safe location lowers stars gradually

Geography as Escape Route

The Everglades are a major asset for evasion. Dense vegetation, swamp terrain, and limited police presence make it the ideal place to lose pursuit. Urban Vice City is much harder — cameras everywhere.
