The $70 Era Is Ending
In 2020, Sony and Microsoft normalized the $70 game price with PS5 and Xbox Series X launches. GTA VI is expected to push even further.
What We Know About GTA VI Pricing
Rockstar hasn't officially confirmed a price, but industry analysts and pre-order listings suggest:
- Standard Edition: ~$80-90
- Ultimate Edition: ~$120-130
This aligns with the new AAA ceiling set by NBA 2K25 ($70–$100 depending on edition) and Nintendo's $80 Switch 2 games.
Why the Higher Price?
Rockstar's justification is implicitly the scale:
- 12+ years of development
- 1,000+ person team at peak
- Estimated $2 billion+ budget (unconfirmed)
- Largest game world Rockstar has ever built
The $100 Game Debate
Many players balk at $100 — but Rockstar has the one IP with the leverage to pull it off. GTA V sold 200M+ copies at $60-70. A significant portion of the audience will pay $80-100 for GTA VI regardless.
The real question is whether base price matters when GTA Online's in-game currency (Shark Cards) is the actual long-term revenue model.
